Pilates The Pilates method is a unique system of exercises developed by Joseph H. Pilates. His first studio was set up in New York in the late1920’s and since then has had a steady following of dancers and performers.Pilates believed his philosophy of mind and body working together would inspire people to become more productive both mentally and physically.Pilates matwork is designed to fit into the physical and time constraints of an individual without diminishing its comprehensive elements. It will systematically exercise all the muscle groups of the body both weak and strong developing a strong and stable torso and spine.Pilates+Ballet A fusion of Pilates’ core workout exercises with basic ballet moves, designed to increase strength and flexibility while building on the graceful, supple movements of ballet. The New York Times called this trend one that “helps replicate the enviable dancer’s body: long and lean, svelte but not bulky.” And it’s just around the corner in Sandymount! No experience required – come unleash your inner ballerina! Yoga Pilates Fusion This is a mix of Yoga and Pilates. It includes postures from both disciplines to increase overall flexibility and to tone, flatten and strenghten the abdominal muscles while also keeping the mind body connection used to help destress and relax the body. What are the benefits of Pilates? • Flatten, tone & strengthen abs There is a constant focus on torso stability yielding strong flat abdominals.• Longer, leaner muscles & improved posture The exercises are performed by building strength into the natural curve of the spine thus improving posture.• Prevent injury Strengthen muscles in such a way as to lead to improved muscle control.• Increase circulation & relieve tension The breathing method increases blood flow to the brain which improves focus and has a revitalising effect.flexibility & heighten concentration By becoming conscious of your muscles and how to control them a mind body connection is developed.• Boost self esteem The Pilates method feels good to do and leaves you feeling wonderful all day. This improved mood helps boost self esteem. |
